Comments and Support for AmmoTracker for iOS:

AmmoTrackerSupport AT me.com

Release History

Status: AmmoTracker was withdrawn from the AppStore on April 7, 2019.

AmmoTracker was launched on June 7, 2011.

Unplanned events have led me to the decision to discontinue the app. AmmoTracker will continue to run on iPhone and iPad until Apple’s changes to iOS cause it to no longer work.

Data can be exported by emailing all boxes to yourself. Emailing will include box data, session data and session photos. Emailing will also include a spreadsheet that can be opened by most spreadsheet apps. We strongly recommend this method to preserve your data.

This website will be retired at the beginning of June.

To all of you who have contacted me during the run of the app, I’d like to express my thanks for your encouragement and suggestions. Many of you know that I’m a hobbyist programmer (and my partner in this project is a hobbyist reloader) and keeping the app updated through many iOS changes was a challenge that I enjoyed. There were more things I’d hoped to do with the app, but recent events have made it impossible to continue and this difficult decision was made.

What’s New in Version 2.2.1 September 25, 2017

• Fixed a bug that caused section headers to sometimes display improperly after the Extended Display / Compact Display selection was made.

  1. For Canada and the UK and South Africa, fixed a bug in the display of the date in the box list for 4” iPhones.

  2. Updated launch screens to match iOS 11 design.

What’s New in Version 2.2 September 19, 2017

• In a Session, when Weather is selected there is now a place to enter barometric pressure. User requested with thanks to J.A.

• When images are emailed, they are all formatted as jpeg to improve compatibility. User requested with thanks again to J.A.

• When deleting boxes, the name of the boxes will be presented on the confirmation alert so they can be reviewed before completing the deletion.

• Fixes for iOS 11 devices: the display of tables and the search bar is adjusted.

What’s New in Version 2.1.2 September 30, 2016

  1. Fix for a bug on devices running iOS 10: when adding or deleting a box, the box list was not displaying correctly (all or some of the boxes were not displayed in the list).

  2. Devices running iOS 9 were not affected by this issue.

What’s New in Version 2.1.1  May 19, 2016

  1. Increased resolution for new sessions photos, with thanks to J.B.

What’s New in Version 2.1  March 29, 2016

Status: available on the App Store

  1. Behind the scenes code changes to comply with the latest iOS version (iOS 9).

  2. Reduced binary size.

  3. Added a clarification that the abbreviation used in the app, “gr”, indicates “grain”. User requested feature , with thanks to J.A.

What’s New in Version 2.0  July 16, 2014

  1. Added a component for hundredths to the powder weight picker. User requested with thanks to M.G. and M.B.

  2. The changes for iOS 7 are significant. To distinguish between the iOS 7 compatible version and previous versions, this will be a 2.0 release (but will still be a free update in the App Store). The app will adopt the new look and feel of iOS 7 and comply with Apple user interface guidelines for iOS 7.

  3. iOS 6 will still be supported and the app will look the same as it always has if running on an iOS 6 device.

  4. There will no longer be support for iOS 4.3 or iOS 5 (due to changes required to support iOS 7).

If your device is running iOS 4.3 or iOS 5 (and you cannot update to iOS 6 or iOS 7), you should save a copy of the last AmmoTracker 1.6.2.ipa file from iTunes. When iTunes updates it will place this version in the trash. Retrieve it from the trash and keep it somewhere safe.

Because future ipa files will not run on iOS 4.3 or iOS 5, if a device is restored from iTunes this version of the ipa file will be needed to restore the app and the data.

As long as you keep this version (AmmoTracker 1.6.2) on your device, it will run as it always has and the App Store will not offer you an update from your device. (iTunes on your Mac will however update and you cannot stop that. But you can retrieve the old version that it places in the trash and it keep it somewhere safe on your Mac.)

What’s New in Version 1.6.2  January 2, 2014

• This is the last update to support iOS 4.3 and iOS 5 (due to changes needed to support iOS 7).

• Fixed a crashing bug that, when running on iOS 7 devices, caused session images to lose their display order when rearranged.

• Fixed a bug in iPad that sometimes caused both original and duplicated boxes to be highlighted in the master list.

• Fixed a bug in iPad that, while in search mode, prevented some data from dynamically displaying as it was selected. The newly selected data was saved, but not displayed.

What’s New in Version 1.6.1   April 24, 2013

  1. User request : emails contain a CSV file that can be opened in a spreadsheet.

  2. The CSV (comma-separated values) file in the email uses a comma as the delimiter (separator). If your spreadsheet uses a different delimiter (a tab, a semicolon, etc), change your spreadsheet preferences to use a comma for the delimiter, then open the CSV file and save it. Then change the preference for the delimiter back to the original setting.

  3. Tested on Numbers '09 for Mac, Numbers 1.7.2 for iOS, Excel 2011 for Mac.

• Bug fixes.

Version 1.6   January 24, 2013

  1. Support for iPhone 5’s 4 inch Retina display.

  2. Optimizations for iOS 6

  3. Tested for iOS 6.1

  4. Bug fixes

  5. Added a “Today” button for date pickers. Some users reuse boxes and want to quickly change the date to today’s date when loading the new recipe. User request, with thanks to W.H.

  6. This update no longer supports devices running iOS 4.1 or 4.2 (see below if you have an older device and cannot update your iOS version).

Version 1.5.1   September 21, 2012

This will be the last update supporting devices running iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2 (due to changes required to support iOS 6).

If your device is running iOS 4.1 or iOS 4.2 (and you cannot update to iOS 4.3), you should save a copy of this AmmoTracker 1.5.1.ipa file from iTunes. When iTunes updates it will place this version in the trash. Retrieve it from the trash and keep it somewhere safe.

Because future ipa files will not run on iOS 4.1 or iOS 4.2, if a device is restored from iTunes this version of the ipa file will be needed to restore the app and the data.

As long as you keep this version (AmmoTracker 1.5.1) on your device, it will run as it always has and the App Store will not offer you an update from your device. (iTunes on your Mac will however update and you cannot stop that. But you can retrieve the old version that it places in the trash and it keep it somewhere safe on your Mac.)

Devices running iOS 4.3 and higher are not affected.

  1. Rearrange Session photo thumbnails. Tap and hold , then drag the thumbnail to reposition. User requested change, with thanks to J.E.

  2. When looking at the list of Sessions, the number of photos (if any) will be displayed. This is similar to how the number of Sessions is displayed on the list of Boxes. User requested feature , with thanks to W.H.

  3. Bug fixes, including the bug that caused emails to load photo attachments out of order again with thanks to J.E.

  4. AmmoTracker has been tested on iOS 6 and will run on iOS 6 without this update. But this update will contain bug fixes specific to devices running iOS 6. The next update will contain more support for iOS 6 and iPhone 5’s 4 inch Retina display.

Version 1.5    July 19, 2012

  1. Record Volume data for powder. User requested feature with thanks to M.J.M.

  2. Increase the maximum recordable Powder Weight to greater than 99.9gr. User requested change, with thanks to J.L.

  3. In a Session, record Sight Settings with data for elevation correction and windage correction. User requested feature with thanks to W.H.

  4. In a Session’s Wind field, choose from the picker to indicate that the wind direction is variable. With thanks to W.H.

  5. In Sessions, increase the maximum recordable Round Count to greater than 99. User requested change with thanks to R.G.

  6. Bug fixes.

Version 1.4.2    April 23, 2012

  1. Sort and display boxes by Name (original default style), or now by Caliber, Gun Type or Date. User requested feature with thanks to B.W.S.

  2. High resolution icons and resources for the new iPad.

  3. Bug fixes.

Version 1.4.1    March 2, 2012

  1. Fixed a crashing bug for older devices (iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2nd generation).

  2. If you were affected by this bug, do not delete the app or your data will be lost.

  3. With great thanks to B. B. for bringing this to our attention and testing for us while we resolved this bug.

Version 1.4     February 26, 2012

  1. Extended display of optional Brass categories.

  2. Because many of our users prefer a compact display, using the extended list is optional.

  3. Toggle between extended and compact list display depending on your load.

  4. Apply the extended (or compact) display to a single box or to all boxes. If applied to all boxes, individual boxes can be changed later.

  5. Apply your display setting to a single box by tapping once in the new Current Display section (below the Add a Session section).

  6. Or tap and hold to apply to all boxes.

  7. Consider making custom templates for data and display preferences (such as extended display for rifle, compact display for shotgun etc). Use the Duplicate Box feature to create new boxes based on your custom templates. Prefix your templates with a "z" so they are stored at the end of the Box list (or with a "000" so they are stored at the top).

  8. Bug fixes.

  9. With thanks to our many users and testers who requested and helped with the Brass data.

Version 1.3.3     January 27, 2012

  1. Fixed a bug that would intermittently cause a new blank session to appear when adding a photo to an existing session.

  2. The existing session would retain the newly added photo and all previously entered data, but it would not be on-screen when returning from the photo picker.

  3. A new blank session would instead be on-screen when returning from the photo picker.

  4. Until updating to this version, if you encounter this bug you can:

  5. Tap the Back button if you are presented with a new blank session after adding a photo to a session.

  6. You will see the session you were working on in the list. The data will be intact.

  7. You may delete the newly added blank session (or use it if a new session is desired anyway).

  8. iOS 5 optimizations.

  9. Preparations for v1.4 which will include optional categories.

  10. Bug fixes.

Version 1.3.2     January 16, 2012

  1. Fixed a bug in the display of Wind Direction.

  2. Other bug fixes.

Version 1.3.1     December 14, 2011

  1. Fixed a bug that caused a crash if the following steps were done: the Weather row was selected, then Celsius was tapped, but NO value was chosen, and the Done button was tapped. After this, anytime the Weather row is selected for this particular Session, the app would crash. (iPad and iPhone).

  2. Fixed a bug that caused long Session Notes and long Photo Notes to mis-display (iPad).

  3. Until this version was released, tapping on the note and then immediately dismissing the note editor will allow the note to display properly.

  4. Other minor bug fixes.

Version 1.3     November 28, 2011

Sessions for range data, with multiple photos.

Don’t forget to be up-to-date with your backups.

Prepare for this version by having a redundant backup - email or print a list of all your boxes from within the app.

  1. User requested feature: record data for Sessions, including multiple photos.

  2. This version includes a data migration to support the data in the new Sessions feature.

  3. This version follows v1.2.4 (version 1.2.4 contains code to help ensure the integrity of the data migration - see below for details).

  4. Users can update to version 1.3 from any earlier version.

  5. Thanks to our users, and especially J.B. and B.T. and J.E, for suggesting this feature!

Version 1.2.4     November 14, 2011

  1. This version is a preparation for the next update (v1.3): a data migration will occur in v1.3 to implement the new Sessions feature.

  2. Users can update to version 1.3 from any earlier version.

  3. v1.2.4 helps to ensure that if, in the very unlikely event, the App Store serves v1.2.4 (a version with the old data model) after it has already served  v1.3 (the version that will contain the new data model) then the user will be presented with an alert to visit the App Store and get v1.3.

  4. When an update is first posted to the App Store, it may take several hours for the new version to propagate through all of Apple’s servers. During this time, two versions may exist on the App Store at the same time. While it would be very unlikely that the App Store would allow an older version to install over a newer one, having v1.2.4 in the App Store as the older version will alert the user should this occur. This is only important because a data migration is involved.

  5. AND FINALLY WE WOULD LIKE TO REMIND YOU:

  6. Get ready for v1.3 by being up-to-date with your backups.

  7. We have tested this data migration in v1.3 many times, but it is always important to back up.

  8. It’s good to have a redundant backup - email or print a list of all your boxes from within the app.

  9. It never hurts to have multiple backups of your data!

Version 1.2.3     October 20, 2011

  1. On devices with a keyboard dictation key (iPhone 4S), a bug was fixed that was causing dictation to not trigger and enable the Save button when creating a new box.

  2. When duplicating a box, there was a bug that caused both the original and duplicated box to be highlighted at the same time (only on iPads running iOS 5).

  3. Fixed a bug that was only in iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 4.1.  The bug affected the feature to email all ammo boxes when using the Share button at the top of a box’s detail view.

  4. Until the update is downloaded from the App Store, 4.1 users can still email all ammo boxes by tapping on the word “Boxes” (the title of the home view) and then tapping on the Share button at the bottom of the About screen.

Version 1.2.2    September 7, 2011

Fixed a bug that caused some powder weights to display excessive digits after the decimal.

  1. The affected values were 8.2, 8.3, 8.7, 8.8, 9.2, 9.3. 9.7, and 9.8 gr. They displayed correctly in the detail view, but had excessive digits in the home view (iPhone) or summary view (iPad).

  2. This also affected Search because the search filter was using the longer digits.

  3. This also affected the display in email and print.

  4. Thanks to our user, B.B., for alerting us to this bug.

Fixed a localization bug.

  1. For our international user in South Africa (and you know who you are), your decimal mark will now display as a comma instead of a period - as it should for your locale.

Fixed a rounding error in OAL when toggling between inches and millimeters.

Version 1.2.1    August 24, 2011

  1. Fixed a bug that allowed a shot to be deleted from the shot list even if it was in use in one or more shotgun load boxes (iPhone).

  2. Fixed a bug that caused a crash when attempting to delete a shot from the shot list if that shot was used in one or more shotgun load boxes (iPad).

  3. Fixed a memory leak.

Version 1.2    August 17, 2011

User requested feature - Duplicate a box.

  1. If you’re adding a box that’s very similar to an existing box, you can duplicate that existing box.

  2. The new box will have a unique name based on the original. Edit the name as needed.

  3. Edit other data in the new box, if it needs to be different from the original.

  4. The Note field is duplicated too, since so much of that data may be valid for the new box. However, be sure to review the Note field as you may want to edit and change quite a bit depending on your use for Notes.

  5. Boxes are individual once the duplicate is made. That is, the boxes are not linked. A change to one box, will not affect the other box or boxes. At this point the logic for linking clones, clones of clones, and cascading through generations of the parent and linked clones is not complete. Therefore, treat each box as an individual box once it is created.

  6. Duplicating boxes is optional; but it may save data entry for some situations.

  7. The button to duplicate is grouped with the Email and Print buttons.

  8. Thanks to our user, J.B., for suggesting this feature!

Bug fixes

  1. Added a confirmation for the Cancel button in Notes view to prevent unintended loss of data if the button is tapped in error.

  2. In Search, a leading zero was being included in the filter for Overall Length. Overall Length does not display with a leading zero so this was returning unexpected results from search.

  3. Reversed the placement  of the Add and Edit buttons in the Boxes list (to more closely match standard Apple apps).

  4. Reversed the placement  of the Save and Cancel buttons in the Add Box view (to more closely match standard Apple apps).

  5. Fixed a bug which could allow the Print/Email popover to display over the top of an existing Print popover (iPad).

Version 1.1.1     July 23, 2011

  1. Fixed the appearance of the launch image for the retina display

  2. Improved launch image for iPad

  3. Eliminated animation at launch, for default box selection (iPad)

  4. Minor bug fixes

Version 1.1     July 6, 2011

New Feature! Print or Email a single box or all boxes in your inventory (iPhone and iPad).

  1. Use Print or Email as another part of your redundant backup (have your data in multiple forms).

  2. Print a hardcopy for the range or meet when handling your iOS device might not be convenient.

  3. AirPrint requires a device running iOS 4.2 or later: iPad, iPhone (3GS or later), iPod touch (3rd generation or later)

  4. AirPrint requires a printer that supports AirPrint (or a third party solution for using a non-supported printer)

  5. See iOS AirPrint 101 for more details ( http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356 )

Bug fixes

  1. Fixed a bug that caused a crash after an alert was presented.

  2. Fixed a bug that caused the last item in a category list to sometimes be renamed if a new item was added right below it and then immediately dragged to the top of the list. The new item is now autosaved, as the dragging begins, preserving the names.

  3. Fixed a bug that was causing a crash for an international user. Note that AmmoTracker was built for, and is sold on, the US App Store. It has not been tested for all international localizations. International users with access to the US App Store may want to contact us so we can test for your locale. Thanks to our user, M.A., for reporting this bug!

Version 1.0.2     June 23, 2011

  1. The larger details list is disabled while adding a new box. This clarifies data entry (iPad).

  2. Improved highlighting and autoscrolling when adding a box, changing a box name, or searching (iPad).

  3. The search box is visible at launch for greater discoverability, as in the original version (rather than pull down to search as in 1.0.1) (iPad).

  4. Improved memory management and other minor bug fixes.

Version 1.0.1     June 15, 2011

  1. Fixed a bug that caused the selected box to lose its highlighting after data entry (iPad).

  2. Fixed a bug that caused shotgun/non-shotgun specific data to be mis-displayed after autoscrolling (iPad).

  3. Improved memory management and other minor bug fixes.

Version 1.0     June 7, 2011
